The Decades and Cult Classic Goods Presents: GUTS

Philadelphia Street Wear Brand Cult Classic Goods  is having  one of many monthly  kick ass parties  tonight  in fishtown to celebrate their collaboration venture with  another great street wear brand The Decades. We sat down with Cults co-owner Joe Pitts to get a little info on the party and how this venture came about

P.F.I Magazine: How did the monthly event with the decades come about?

Joe: I first met Brooks (co-owner of the Decades) about 3 years ago. We used to work together, and I think Decades was just starting. Our job required us driving long hours so we spent a lot of time together just listening to music and talking shit. The friendship developed from there; he’s like a big brother to me. We both helped our boy Jayo with his Super Friends party a few months back, and that was a big success, so it made sense to plan more parties together. GUTS came about pretty organically. A couple months ago my homie Brady (DJ SYLO) was looking to move his Stunt Loco party to a new home, and I suggested he come check out this new spot called The Saint. Brooks had introduced me to the owner Brendan, and then I introduced  Brady to him. SYLO ended up finding the perfect new home for Stunt Loco at 700 club, but we still wanted to use the Saint for something so we all linked up and put GUTS together.

P.F.I: The success of the  Choco Truck Collab was huge. Now you guys have  ventured into a newly  successful collaboration with the Decades; looks like Cult Classics  is showing its teeth.  Joe: You know it! Collaborations are  a big part of what  the Cult Classic  brand has been about since the beginning. Our first party was held at a  huge  warehouse  in north Philly in the summer of 2012. I put  DJ Dayo who was new at the time  on the bill and he  eventually started repping Pure Productions. We (Cult Classic and Pure ) started running our own warehouse venue shortly after in northern liberties/fish-town. We threw some SERIOUS bangers in there; I’m talking like 800-900 kids all wilding out. We had to hire off duty cops to keep it under control (and so  we didn’t get busted). Due to the energy from that,  I’ve been pretty adamant about fostering relationships/collaborations because not only does it help build our brand, but  it is  a blessing  working with people who  are on the same wave length.

P.F.I: And who may that category belong to?

Joe: People that just really want to do cool shit (laughs)

P.F.I: Will GUTS mirror the “Project X” effect of previous parties with Choco truck or  self proclaimed events such as Hamsterdam?

Joe: GUTS is going to be straight guttural, it’s going to be wild. The vibe of the venue being that it’s directly under the El fits our direction for the party. It’s going to be packed, it’s going to be hot. The musics gonna be popping, we’re going to have our signature drink Green Lean on deck, and we’ve got surprises. And it’s free. What more could you want?

P.F.I:  Nice! Now this green lean….will it  actually have some “drank” components in it? (fingers crossed) Joe: You’ll have to come try one to find out  (laughs)

P.F.I: We’re sure our Editor in Chief will clear the attendance (laughs)

Event: GUTS

Venue: Saints Front and Girard 10 p.m.

Admission: Free

New Label for NoLabel

For all of our readers whom have been huge fans of the NoLabelRoyalty movement there may be a few changes coming to the ever so popular non-profit brand. PR and  consultant  for NoLabelRoyalty  Gerald Shaun sat with us to directly  explain whats going on   and what  the brands followers can look forward to.

no label royalty

P.F.I: New times calls for new changes.

Gerald: Your 100% right (laughs)

P.F.I: Seems like NoLabelRoyalty  has been very busy with a few projects  but still keeping  things  low-key. What has been going on with the organization?

Gerald: We have a lot of things going on but our major endeavor is the changing of NoLabelRoyalty  from a non-profit to a LLC business structure.

P.F.I: How come?

Gerald: The organization has been a non-profit from its conception at LockHaven University and has  been doing events and forums on  a collegiate level , going from campus to campus promoting and helping other organizations grow.  A lot of values that the board has  learned from forming and running a non-profit has  made us a well oiled machine. Sad to say times are changing and we have other avenues that   we would like to explore, and  a non-profit structure wont allow us to open up those outlets.

P.F.I: What are some  outlets NoLabelRoyalty is  aiming to  establish?

Gerauld: Relaunching our organization into a modeling agency. We would like to create auxiliary sectors for the agency as well. These sectors will not only deal with managing and developing models but the branding and networking of make up artists, photographers and stylist. Hence the LLC structure .  We would like to hone in on  the overall “fashion experience”.

P.F.I: Playing the field on all levels (laughs)

Gerald: I told you we have big aspirations for this year (laughs)

P.F.I: Is this  the reason for the  Relaunch Party coming May 10th? To highlight your new ventures?

Gerald: Yes. The Relaunch party will be a mirroring  showcase of where we have been and where we are going. The event will  commemorate everyone we have worked with and introduce people we will work with  from designers to  photographers from Virginia, D.C., New York,  as well as our local contacts  in Philly.  They will be showcasing their  fashion lines , products and services,  with a brief  narrative of   their endeavors.

P.F.I: You mentioned that the experience with a  non-profit structure has brought many valuable lessons, how will NoLAbelRoyalty   apply the same integrity and discipline to the new business model?

Gerald: We will still have our community service drives and forums from which the organization was founded on. I think keeping those activities in tact will keep  our day one audience loyal; they have held  us to specific standards and we do not want to ruin that.

P.F.I: Any special  promotion leading up to the  Relaunch?

Gerauld: We will be doing  photo shoots  with clients and associates.  Listed first on our roster such as  make up artist Jenai, celebrity make up artist Jacen Bowmen,  Model Michele, and fashion photographer King Robbie.

P.F.I:  Can you give a brief insight of what your planning after the event?

Gerald: Community wise, we are partaking in the  Susan G Koleman Walk the day after our Relaunch event. The following week we are doing events with a couple different high schools, such as Norristown High for their annual fashion show. We will be lending a hand with  model coordination. We are  also helping to coordinate  Constitution  High’s  fashion show the first week of June. After that we will be launching our first official event as an established  LLC.

After her debut showcasing at Buffalo Exchange, we took the liberty of sitting down with Penelope Fox to get better acquainted with the artist behind canvases that has trail blazed Philadelphia underground art world

P.F.I. Magazine: There are two artistic mediums you use to produce your works. One is a pop art, no holds barred, tell all acrylic style ; the other, is oil based through which you create more insightful and subtle works. Is there a point where these two POV’s meet? Does the vertex represent who Penelope Fox is?

Penelope:There are many sides to art, feelings, and emotions. We all can be put through the same experience and come out with our own reality that may or may not match the reality anyone else . I started on oil paints. Oil paints are very deep for me
